Tom and Jerry

This topic mainly deals with the animated theatrical shots featuring the ever famous blue grey cat and the equally popular house mouse. The famous duo was created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Almost all the cartoons from the series usually features a terrible clash between the anthropomorphic cat and mouse respectively. Usually Jerry emerges as the winner in the end however in very few occasions it is Tom who gains the upper hand ultimately. The battle between the duo is usually ultra violent with a touch of comedy every now and then. Sometimes during their rivalry,Jerry intentionally brings Spike (an angry bulldog whom Tom fears) into the fray. Also in some encounters Spike chases and trashes Tom whenever the blue cat bothers his little son Tyke by accident. Sometimes Jerry has some allies in the form of Quacker (a duckling), Nibbles (an orphaned little grey mouse) and a yellow canary. Tom also has some sidekicks in the form of alley cats like the black Butch, Lightning/Meathead and Topsy. However sometimes Tom has to fight with Butch to gain Toodles, a cat for whom Tom has a crush. Also featuring is the African/American housemaid Mammy Two Shoes, who in most of the cartoons is seen trashing Tom in the end. The original series created by Hanna and Barbera won a record seven Academy Awards for Best Short Subject (Cartoons). The series will always be remembered for its extremely high tone of violence. Also in some cartoons there are some scenes featuring racism, usually when a character is seen after an explosion. Despite this the cartoons went on to become one of the most popular shorts ever made and it spawned of a seperate series created by Gene Deitch and Chuck Jones respectively. However it was the original series which being directed by Hanna-Barbera and produced by Fred Quimby, would go on to become the most popular series of the Tom and Jerry franchise
