King Ghidorah
One of the most powerful Japanese fictional monsters ever created, King Ghidorah has gained the title “The King of Terror”. He is the arch enemy of another famous monster- Godzilla. This “Terrible king” first appeared in the Godzilla starrer, “Ghidorah, the Three headed monster” (1964). Usually depicted as a monstrous, three headed, golden dragon with huge wings and no arms, the strength of Ghidorah is considerably more than that of Godzilla himself. Indeed in some films Godzilla is forced to ally himself with other monsters before battling King Ghidorah. In the Showa series, he was a space alien dragon. In the Heisei series, he appeared only in one movie- “Godzilla vs King Ghidorah” (1991) where it is shown that three irradiated, small Dorats (Genetically engineered life forms) fused together to become the mutated King Ghidorah. In the following series it was shown that he was originally a Guardian Beast. In most of the movies he is the primary villian. However once he potrayed the role of hero against an rampaging Godzilla. This happened in the movie “Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack” (2001) released during the Millenium series. In almost all the movies, he is noted for the distinct alarming shrieks from each of his three heads. He can also fire electricity bolts from each of his head.He has appeared in more number of movies than any other monsters as the main recurring villain of Godzilla. In many movies he is shown thrashing Godzilla initially before Godzilla gets the upperhand and defeats Ghidorah altogether. King Ghidorah also returned as Keizer Ghidorah in the latest movie starring Godzilla- (Godzilla: Final Wars). He appeared as the ultimate and final villian in the movie. In most of the movies he is seen towering over Godzilla in terms of height. However in “Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack” he was shown smaller and physically weaker than Godzilla. In one film he appeared as the adversary of Mothra who is an ally of Godzilla. This happened in the 1998 film “Rebirth of Mothra III”. This film is typical as his arch enemy Godzilla is absent in this movie. One of the greatest villian monsters ever created, a Godzilla fan would surely hope for King Ghidorah to return in the future Godzilla movies.
